About

Creative but clueless? Drawn to the beauty of historical photographic processes? Eager to create unique pieces of art but don't know where to start? You are in the right place! Because I'm an expert? No. Far from it. It's because I am in the same position as you, simply interested in exploring methods old and new to create beautiful art and tell compelling stories.

When I started my media degree, I was enchanted by the intricacies of film photography. There is something almost magical about developing your own images and watching them spring to life in the chemistry. It takes patience and a whole lot of mistakes, but in the end you are left with a photograph that you didn't just snap - you lovingly crafted.

As I learned more about these darkroom techniques, I began to wonder how it all began, and the different methods used by photographers in the following decades. I knew I wanted to try some of them out.

During the first lockdown of the Covid pandemic, I joined an alternative photography group on Facebook. I was keen to learn more about the ghostly allure of lumen prints and the technical aspects of shooting multiple exposures. While I enjoyed looking at people's own work, it was difficult digging through the multitude of posts to find out how to actually create my own. I decided to make a blog to help those in the same position as me.

At Pursuits of a Photoist, join me on my journey as I learn about alternative photographic processes. Whether old and almost forgotten, or injected with a new life, I can't wait to discover how we can use these methods in our own art. I am excited to share my work with you, and, most importantly, to see what you create!
