Cyanotypes

These are the final cyanotypes that I will bind into a book. I have chosen each one for its depiction of the beach, sand or water. Some of my favourite images were simply the results of experiments - the first image was made by drawing concentric circles with sand, waiting for a few minutes, then re-drawing the circles in order to expose some of the paper that was initially covered. This mimics a ripple, and the contrast between the light and dark blue and the white creates a sense of depth. Similarly, the second image has an interesting texture, but this time it is the paper being slightly damp when coating it with the chemicals that has created it. The chemicals have dispersed through the fibres, and the water dripping down it in the process of exposure has drawn those chemicals down through the paper, resulting in a very fluid look. The fine sand used in the penultimate image gives a sense of the sea mist being swept into the air from the crashing waves below.
